2021 Ancienne Pinot Noir

2021 Ancienne Pinot Noir

Grown on the south-facing slopes of our organic and biodynamic estate vineyard in Avonport (Dijon clones 115, 667, 777, 828, planted in 2012); sheltered by Bay of Fundy breezes and born out of meticulous viticultural effort. Canopy management practices in this block include cluster thinning, leaf thinning and shoot positioning, all by hand. The 2021 growing season was characterized by warm weather throughout the spring and summer months, combined with abundant rainfall, meaning yields were up slightly on average, but ripeness parameters were met.

Hand-harvested and hand-sorted on October 24th. Wild fermentation (20% whole cluster, 80% crushed and destemmed) was followed by 21-months aging in mostly used French oak. Bottled September 15th 2023.

Tasting Notes

Medium ruby hue in the glass. On the nose, a classic Pinot perfume with rich brandied cherry, fresh rose petal and hints of ground nutmeg. With time in the glass, the bouquet opens to earthier, herbal aromas reminiscent of sage leaf and fennel. The palate is nicely structured with bright red fruit flavours framed by medium tannins and persistent length. An elegant, restrained style of cool climate Pinot Noir that is characterized by vibrancy and finesse.

Pairing suggestions include roast pork or poultry, fatty fish such as salmon or tuna, white bean dishes and wild mushroom pasta.
