2022 Terroir Series Kékfrankos

$30.43 / 750mL

2022 Terroir Series Kékfrankos

A single-vineyard wine originating from the organic and biodynamic Oak Island Vineyard in Avonport, where cool Bay of Fundy breezes shape our growing environment, crafting wines with a strong sense of place, freshness and tidal influence.

Kékfrankos, a red grape variety originating in Central Europe (also known as Blaufränkisch in Austria and Lemberger in Germany), is relatively rare in Canada, grown by only a handful of producers across the country. As part of our ongoing quest to uncover cold-hardy red varieties suitable for our cool climate, we planted Nova Scotia’s very first block back in 2013.

All grapes for this wine were hand harvested on the 3rd of November, crushed and destemmed prior to wild fermentation. Aged in mostly used / neutral French oak barriques for seven months and bottled September 15th 2023.

In the glass, this wine presents a vivid, medium ruby colour. On the nose, aromas of black cherry and red plum are interlaced with subtle anise and violet accents. Medium-bodied with intriguing tension between the tart red fruit and herbal flavours.

Pairing suggestions include grilled sausages, lamb kebabs with mediterranean herbs, tomato based pastas and stuffed peppers.
