lightfoot & wolfville clydesdales

We treat our Clydesdale team as a part of our family, and are committed to ensuring they always enjoy balanced health, are well-trained, form a close bond of communication and trust with John, our Wagon Boss, and are content and happy.

The welfare of our horses is of utmost importance to us. We prioritize providing an extremely high level of care to our horses by working with a number of local suppliers and specialists.

Welfare & Care

Our team of Clydesdales enjoy a lifestyle rooted in comfort, routine, and respect for their natural needs. They live outdoors year-round with plenty of space to move and graze, and a large run-in shelter provides protection from the elements whenever they choose.

During the warmer months, they spend their days on lush seasonal pastures, while in cooler months they’re provided with free-choice hay to ensure they always have something nourishing to munch on. Each horse drinks from a constant supply of fresh water - up to 200 gallons are available daily - and they’re fed hearty grain meals twice a day, specially balanced for energy and nutrition.

Grooming

Regular grooming keeps their coats and manes healthy and helps strengthen the bond between horse and handler. In the summer, they enjoy weekly baths (a refreshing treat on hot days), and in winter, we switch to gentle spot-cleaning to keep them comfortable.

Farrier Care

Every four weeks, our farrier visits to care for their hooves - an essential part of keeping these gentle giants healthy and comfortable.
