2021 Terroir Series Kékfrankos
Kékfrankos, a red grape variety originating in Central Europe (also known as Blaufrankisch in Austria and Lemberger in Germany), is relatively rare in Canada, grown by only a handful of producers across the country. As part of our ongoing quest to uncover cold-hardy red varieties suitable for Nova Scotia's cool climate, we planted the first block in our Avonport vineyard - the “Oak Island Vineyard” - in 2013.
All grapes for this wine were hand-harvested on the 2nd of November and crushed and destemmed prior to wild fermentation. Aged in used French oak barriques for seven months and bottled September 21st 2022 with minimal sulphite addition.

Tasting Notes
Vivid, medium ruby in the glass. Bright red and dark fruit on the nose with floral, herbal and spice accents - notes reminiscent of plum, black cherry, black tea leaf and tarragon. Fresh, balanced and juicy palate - purely fruit-driven with an elegant, light tannic structure and a charming vibrancy.
Pairing suggestions include coq au vin, braised beef agnolotti with brown butter and sage and dishes focusing on beetroot or duck.
